This item was taken from the IEEE Conference ' Improving the efficiency of high-power semiconductor optical amplifiers ' We demonstrate a 71% increase in electrical-to-optical conversion efficiency in a slab-coupled optical waveguide amplifier (SCOWA) by employing multiple contacts. At a saturated output power of 26.4 dBm, the amplifier has an efficiency of 11.5% and a gain of 15 dB.
