Description

This item was taken from the IEEE Conference ' New nonlinear AgGaGeS/sub 4/, AgGaGe/sub 5/S/sub 12/, AgGaGe/sub 1.5/Se/sub 5/, AgGaGe/sub 5/Se/sub 12/ and HgGa/sub 2/S/sub 4/, Cd/sub 0.35/Hg/sub 0.65/Ga/sub 2/S/sub 4/ crystals ' Optical linear and nonlinear properties of a number of new nonlinear crystals are investigated for the first time. AgGaGeS/sub 4/, AgGaGe/sub 5/S/sub 12/, AgGaGe/sub 1.5/Se/sub 5/, AgGaGe/sub 5/Se/sub 12/, are solid solutions of AgGaS/sub 2/:GeS/sub 2/(Se/sub 2/) or mixed Ag/sub x/Ga/sub x/Ge/sub (1-x)/S/sub 4/(Se/sub 4/) crystals, and also HgGa/sub 2/S/sub 4/, and Cd/sub 0.35/Hg/sub 0.65/Ga/sub 2/S/sub 4/ are studied. Ag/sub x/Ga/sub x/Ge/sub (1-x)/S/sub 4/(Se/sub 4/) biaxial crystals belong to mm2 point group symmetry, transparent in the range 450-13500 nm, are characterized with n/sub y//spl ges/n/sub x/>n/sub z/, phase-matchable for e/spl rarr//spl infin/ interactions. Nonlinear second order susceptibilities d/sub 31/ and d/sub 32/ are about 12 and 8 pm/V for all of this crystal family. Efficient second order nonlinear susceptibility is as high as 24 pm/V for negative single axis HgGa/sub 2/S/sub 4/ and Cd/sub 0.35/Hg/sub 0.65/Ga/sub 2/S/sub 4/ crystals belonging to 4 point group symmetry, transparent in the 550-13500 nm range. The damage threshold of the new crystals for TEA CO/sub 2/ laser emission is 1.7 to 2.2 times higher than for the popular middle IR ZnGeP/sub 2/ crystals. CO/sub 2/ laser SHG is realized for the first time in listed crystals. Sellmeier coefficients and detailed information of the investigation results are presented.
