Description
This item was taken from the IEEE Conference ' Modification of the FTU tokamak machine for operation with D-shaped plasmas ' The FTU machine was designed to operate with circular plasma. A modification of the FTU (FTU-D) load assembly has been studied in order to allow operation with strongly shaped plasmas (R=1 m, a=0.19-0.22 m, elongation k=1.6, triangularity /spl delta/=0.8). The scientific aim of this proposal is the investigation of the so called advanced tokamak operation characterised by the simultaneous achievement of high-/spl beta/ and high bootstrap current fraction in regimes with high energy confinement achieved by current profile control.
