Human history is filled stories of individuals who sought to bring order to nations in chaos but created a regime that sought to control the lives of every one of their constituents. Authoritarian governments of a myriad of manifestations have appeared on virtually every continent, and many such regimes continue to operate today. This paper will take an in-depth look at the nature of authoritarian regimes and provide examples from the post-industrial international community.
