An executive at Metro Bank’s branch in Vietnam is charged with deciding whether to pursue a business relationship with Champacoal, the newly formed national coal corporation of Vietnam. With a host of risk factors to consider, making matters worse, the company’s financials are presented as unformatted and difficult to read. Taking into consideration factors ranging from the macroeconomic climate of Vietnam to the creditworthiness of Champacoal, this case asks students to calibrate the risk of offering a loan to the company.
