Three-Dimensional Multiphase Field Modeling of the Effect of Lamellar Thickness on the Eutectic Growth

Three-dimensional (3-D) numerical studies have been performed to investigate the effect of lamellar thickness on eutectic growth with a given lamellar spacing by using the KKSO multiphase field model on the basis of two-dimensional (2-D) benchmark results. Simulated results show that, with the increase of the lamellar thickness, the thickness effect becomes stronger, which results in various oscillations destabilizing. The calculated average undercooling curves indicate that the change of undercooling is the essential reason for the morphology transition.
